On Saturday, December 11 at 7:00 PM & Sunday, December 12 at 3:00 PM at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church,, 201 Henry Street, Ashland; Friday, December 17 at 7:30 PM at St. Marks Episcopal Church,, 520 N. Boulevard, Richmond; and Sunday, December 19, at 3:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church, 4200 Dover Rd., Richmond, the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale presented four holiday concerts conducted by its new artistic director Lawrence W. Heath. The chorale performed Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, along with a variety of seasonal songs and anthems: This Christmastide (Jessye’s Carol), O Magnum Mysterium (Lauridsen), Angels’ Carol (Rutter), Christmas Folk Carols (Flummerfelt), and Go, Tell It on the Mountain (Rutter). Soloist Marcia Summers sang Some Children See Him (Burt) and O, Holy Night (Adam). Accompanists were Laura Candler White, organ and piano (Dec. 12, 17, & 19); Christopher Martin, organ and piano (Dec. 11); Lynne Abbey Lee, harp (Dec. 11 & 12); and Anastasia Jellison, harp (Dec. 17 & 19).

Baptist Church, 4200 Dover Rd., Richmond, the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale celebrated spring with two evenings of music that featured Frostiana, by Randall Thompson, and Coronation Mass, by W.A. Mozart. The chorale was led by William P. Gorton, Artistic Director and Conductor. The concert also featured a guest performance by members of the American Youth Harp Ensemble, Lynnelle Ediger, Artistic Director.
Performers from the American Youth Harp Ensemble were Becky Brown, Aponi Brunson, Ian McVoy (May 13) and Kathryn Marqueen (May 16). Accompanist for Frostiana was Laura Candler White. Vocal soloists were Meghan Amerson, soprano; Deidra Palmour Gorton, alto; Kenneth Wood, tenor; and Jay BeVille, bass.

Bells, Sweet Little Jesus Boy, I Wonder as I Wander, White Christmas
and others. A Community Carol Sing began the concert which featured
a flute ensemble, Flutopia, as well as solos by William and Deidra

On May 17,6:00 pm at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 Henry Street, in Ashland, and Tuesday, May 19, 7:00 p.m. at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 520 N. Boulevard, in Richmond. and May 19, 2009 the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale celebrated successful evenings of music that featured Beethoven's Mass in C plus other works. the Mass, a sympathetic and accessible work, was written in 1807 on a commission from Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy, for whom Haydn frequently composed.

Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale Holiday Concert took place at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 Henry Street, in Ashland with two performances: 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This acclaimed event featured Bach’s Magnificat, Coventry Carol, the beautiful Welsh lullaby Suo Gan, Robert Young’s There Is No Rose of Such Virtue, and other wonderful selections that inspired the holiday spirit.

William & Deidra Gorton presented “Falling in Love” as part of the Randoph-Macon College Cultural Arts & Entertainment Series 2008-2009 Season on September 20th, at 8 p.m. in the Blackwell Auditorium, R-MC Center for the Performing Arts.
Locally famous from their participation in the Ashland Variety Show, internationally recognized opera singers William and Deidra Gorton presented famous duets from opera, including “Parigi, O Cara” from La Traviata, “Seguidilla” from Carmen, and many others. They were accompanied by long-time colleague Noel Lester, who delighted the audience with a pastiche of piano solo works.

Schubert's "Mass in G" April 26, 2008
On April 26, 2008, the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale celebrated a successful evening of music that heralds spring with Schubert’s Mass in G, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer, and other wonderful anthems on love and nature that included English Madrigals, and Copland’s The Promise of Living from “The Tender Land.” The highlight of the evening was Prayer to the Motherworld composed by CVMC's own Artistic Director

Vivaldi's "Gloria" December 9, 2007
The 2007 season ended with a Baroque bang! Vivaldi's "Gloria" was presented in concert on December 9, along with selections from Handel's "Messiah," plus several seasonal gems such as Darke's "In the Bleak Mid-Winter," Howells' "A Spotless Rose," and Holst's "Christmas Day" the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale was joined again by players from the Richmond Symphony for a wonderful concert at Duncan Memorial UMC in Ashland.
